  • 1 packet SAF Instant Yeast Can substitute with active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Warm Milk 90 to 100°F, can use non-dairy milk for lactose-free
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour Gluten-free blend can be used
  • 1 tbsp Sugar Honey or maple syrup can be substituted
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 large Egg Use a flax egg for vegan option
  • as needed Butter For greasing the pan, coconut oil can be substituted

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Warm your milk to 90 to 100°F and dissolve the SAF instant yeast in it.
  2. In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt until well incorporated.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and the egg to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  4. Cover the bowl and let the batter rise for 30 minutes to 1 hour until bubbly.
  5. Preheat a poffertjes pan over medium heat and grease each divot with butter.
  6. Fill each divot halfway with batter and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface.
  7. Flip each poffertje using a skewer when golden brown and cook for a further 1-2 minutes.
  8. Remove and serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with butter or syrup.
