Preparation Steps
  1. Slice beef roast against the grain into thin strips, about ¼ inch thick. Dice the onion into medium pieces. Optionally, sear the beef for 2 minutes on each side.
  2. In the slow cooker, add sliced beef, diced onion, beef broth, coconut aminos, minced garlic, toasted sesame oil, minced ginger, white wine vinegar, salt, Chinese 5 spice, and pepper. Stir to coat evenly.
  3. Cover and set slow cooker to low for 6 hours or high for 3-4 hours. Check for doneness at 3-4 hours on high or 5 hours on low.
  4. Combine arrowroot flour with 1-2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry.
  5. Once beef is tender, stir in arrowroot slurry. Add broccoli florets on top, cover again, and cook on high for an additional 10-15 minutes.

Notes

Ensure beef is sliced against the grain for tenderness. Searing the beef enhances flavor, and adjust thickening agent if using frozen broccoli. Avoid overcooking broccoli for best texture.
